At seventy BPM, this record barely breathes, yet the jazz-tinged drums still manage to sway with a hypnotic, half-time lilt that pulls the body downward rather than upward. Floating Points weaves intricate synth lines through a near-static field of ambient haze, and in key 4A that minor tonality hangs like smoke in a room with the lights turned low. The energy registers at a mere whisper, but the rhythmic detail keeps it from collapsing into pure wallpaper; instead, it hovers, suspended between movement and stillness.
In a set, this is pure after-hours alchemy, the kind of track you drop when the dancefloor needs to dissolve into something more horizontal. It builds no peak, constructs no drop, yet it carves out a vast, intimate room where the club’s residual heat meets dawn-grey introspection. For me, that is exactly where the most compelling club music lives.
